从白蚁中分离到具有纤维素酶活的贪噬菌   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
以黄胸散白蚁Reticulitermes flaviceps后肠为材料,分离培养具有降解纤维素能力的微生物,以进一步了解白蚁后肠微生物的种类。通过以羧甲基纤维素钠(CMC-Na)为唯一碳源的富集及选择培养基培养、筛选,获得一株具有纤维素酶活的菌株R3063。形态学鉴定、革兰氏染色观察及16S rDNA基因序列分析表明该菌株属于贪噬菌(Variovorax sp.)。目前尚未见贪噬菌具有纤维素酶活的报道。  相似文献

Ventilation of termite mounds: new results require a new model   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
In 1955, Lüscher proposed a ventilation mechanism forcathedral-shaped termite mounds to exchange respiratory gases. This mechanism was generally accepted, although it had neverbeen tested critically. We tested this mechanism by investigatingtemperatures, CO2 concentrations, and air currents in and aroundtwo types of Macrotermes bellicosus mounds: cathedral-shapedmounds with many ridges and thin walls located in the savannaand dome-shaped mounds without ridges and with thick wallsin the forest. These two mound shapes have two different mechanismsof ventilation, depending on the environmental temperature.In the savanna during the day, sun heats the air in the peripheralair channels inside the ridges of the mound above the centralnest temperatures and produces a temperature gradient in theperipheral air channels with decreased temperatures at thetop of the mound. This temperature gradient leads to convectioncurrents with air rising inside the air channels of the ridgesto the top of the mound, meanwhile exchanging CO2. In contrast,in the savanna during the night and generally in the forest,the temperatures inside the air channels are lower than thoseof the central nest, and no air currents rising upward insidethe air channels were detected. The CO2 concentrations in theair channels of savanna mounds at night and forest mounds ingeneral were higher than during the day in the savanna. Therefore,our data do not support Lüscher's proposed mechanism.  相似文献

Suppressive effects of intercropping on Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) infestations have been reported in several crops. However, this study demonstrates that in year-round chrysanthemum, Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev, undersowing with subterranean clover, Trifolium subterraneum L., results in an increased thrips feeding damage. In a pot experiment, performed with chrysanthemum plants (cultivars Reagan and Tiger) grown with or without subterranean clover, significantly more leaves with silver and growth damage were found in the chrysanthemum plants with subterranean clover in comparison with the monocropped chrysanthemum plants. Similarly, the degree of deformation of leaf perimeter and leaf surface was higher in the top leaves of the intercropped chrysanthemum plant. In the soil experiment (only performed with Tiger and plants were grown in the soil in the greenhouse) intercropped chrysanthemum plants suffered a higher feeding damage as well. Analysis of the relation between silver or growth damage and the thrips pressure demonstrates that at similar thrips pressure in the intercropped chrysanthemum plants suffered significantly more damage. The higher thrips pressure in the intercropped chrysanthemum only explains the differences in damage partly. Changes in the reaction of chrysanthemum plants to thrips feeding or in the behaviour of the thrips, mediated by the presence of the non-host crop, are discussed. Our explanation is that chrysanthemum plants grown with clover are more susceptible to thrips feeding than monocropped plants. We conclude that undersowing with clover does not contribute to reduce damage by F. occidentalis in year-round chrysanthemum. Also, the influence of crop diversification on a pest cannot be foreseen until the specific characteristics of each individual crop – pest system are studied.  相似文献

Vision has long been considered purposeless in the dark underground ecotope. However, recent anatomical studies revealed an unexpected diversity of ocular and retinal features and various degrees of development of the visual system in mammals with predominantly subterranean activity, and have suggested retention of basic visual capabilities even in some strictly subterranean mammals such as the African mole‐rats. Behavioural tests assessing image‐forming vision have not yet been conducted in subterranean mammals. Here, we investigated the visual capacities in three species of the African mole‐rats, namely the giant mole‐rat Fukomys mechowii, the Mashona mole‐rat Fukomys darlingi and the silvery mole‐rat Heliophobius argenteocinereus, in the fossorial coruro Spalacopus cyanus and the inbred C57L/J mouse. The behavioural assays performed in this study revealed severe visual deficits in all three species of mole‐rats. The absence of the visual placing reflex suggested impairment of either image‐forming vision or visuomotor integration. The random choice between the shallow and the deep side of a visual cliff clearly demonstrated inability of mole‐rats to perceive depth. The nesting assay did not yield conclusive evidence regarding the capacity for visually guided spatial orientation in the only tested species, the giant mole‐rat. In contrast, both the coruro and the mouse exhibited a clear placing reaction and preferred the shallow side of the visual cliff, implying functional image‐forming vision. Thus, the behavioural data gathered in this study show that vision is seriously compromised in the strictly subterranean, congenitally microphthalmic African mole‐rats but efficient (i.e. comparable to that of surface‐dwelling rodents) in a species with regular surface activity, the coruro.  相似文献

1. While it is clear that land‐use change significantly impacts the taxonomic dimension of soil biodiversity, how the functional dimension responds to land‐use change is less well understood. 2. This study examined how the transformation of primary forests into rubber tree monocultures impacts individual termite species and how this change is reflected in termite taxonomic and functional α‐diversity (within site) and β‐diversity (among sites). 3. Overall, individual species responded strongly to land‐use change, whereby only 11 of the 27 species found were able to tolerate both habitats. These differences caused a 27% reduction in termite taxonomic richness and reduced taxonomic β‐diversity in rubber plantations compared with primary forests. The study also revealed that the forest conversion led to a shift in some termite species with smaller body size, shorter legs and smaller mandibular traits. Primary forests exhibited higher functional richness and functional β‐diversity of termite species, indicating that functional traits of termite species in rubber plantations are more evenly distributed. 4. The present study suggests that forest conversion does not merely decrease taxonomic diversity of termites, but also exerts functional trait filtering within some termite species. The results affirm the need for biodiversity assessments that combine taxonomic and functional indicators when monitoring the impact of land‐use change.  相似文献

Biological nitrogen fixation by the microorganisms in the gut of termites is one of the singularly important symbiotic processes, since termites invariably thrive on nitrogen poor diet. Two isolates of free living aerobic and facultative anaerobic N fixing bacteria were obtained from the guts of fungus cultivating termite, Macrotermes sp. Among the total bacterial isolates from termite gut, the per cents of N fixing aerobes viz., Azotobacter and Beijerinckia spp were 49% and 37% from the salivary gland while facultative N fixing anaerobe viz., Klebsiella and Clostridium contributed (51% and 93%). The free living aerobic bacteria were identified as Azotobacter spp (19 x 104 CFU mL‐1) and Beijerinckia (13.2 x 104 CFU mL‐1) from the salivary gland of the termite; interestingly, foregut, mid gut and hind gut registered a low population of these bacteria. The isolates of Azotobacter were smooth, glistening, vicid in nature, rods, gram negative and cyst forming. Isolates of Beijerinckia sp. produced copious slime, tenacious, rods, gram negative with no cyst formations. Both the isolates emitted green fluorescence and produced acid. Facultative N fixing anaerobes were harbored in the hind gut. The isolates were identified as Klebsiella (20 x 104 CFU mL‐1) and Clostridium pasteurianum 39.1 x 104 CFU mL‐1. Klebsiella were straight rods arranged singly or in pairs, non‐motile, gram negative, whereas Clostridium pasteurianum was viscoid, motile with terminal spores. A positive correlation was observed between the extractable polysaccharides of these isolates and soil aggregation. The aggregates formed by the isolates increased soil aeration, porosity, water holding capacity and helped in better plant growth. Thus, the gut microflora of termite, apart from harnessing nitrogen from the atmosphere, also helps improving soil fertility.  相似文献

Gamma-emitting radionuclides were used in single and double-isotope combinations to label individual colonies of the subterranean termite Reticulitermes flavipes Kol. Each of these radionuclides produces a characteristic and identifiable energy spectrum upon decay, and using whole-body gamma spectroscopy, the characteristic spectral emission signatures of each isotope and their relative quantities were detected in workers, brachypterous nymphs, and alates.Radionuclides present in a food source were rapidly incorporated into workers, and reached detection limits within one to three days. Isotopic labels were transferable between colony members, and all individuals in laboratory colonies were labeled within 21 days of initial contact with foragers that had fed at a labeled food source.Single- and double-label nuclide markers were transferred to sexual forms (prealates and alates) by social food flow. Applications of radionuclide labeling and gamma spectroscopic analysis in insect behavioral ecology are discussed.
Résumé Des radionucléides ont été utilisés seuls ou en combinaison par 2 pour marquer des individus de colonies de Reticulitermes flavipes. Chaque radionucléide possède ses caractères spectraux. Avec un spectroscope très sensible, pouvant contenir l'insecte entier, il est possible d'identifier les signatures spectrales de chaque isotope et les quantités relatives de chacun d'eux chez les ouvriers, les larves brachyptères et les ailés.Les radionucléides présents dans le papier consommé sont rapidement incorporés chez les ouvriers, et atteignent le seuil de détection en 1 à 3 jours. Le marquage isotopique se transmet entre les membres de la colonie; tous les habitants de colonies de laboratorie ont été contaminés en 21 jours, après des contacts avec des individus alimentés sur une source marquée.Les marqueurs isotopiques avec 1 ou 2 radionucléides sont transférés aux sexués par les échanges trophallaxiques. La discussion porte sur les applications du marquage aux radionucléides et l'analyse au spectroscope en écologie éthologique des insectes.
